Organizational structure of the AEJMC

With more than 3,000 educators, researchers and industry members globally, the AEJMC represents people having a diverse range of interests and concerns within the general topic of journalsm and mass communication.

The AEJMC is presided over by a board of directors who are generally elected from the organization at-large. Some of the seats on the board of directors are ex-officio, reserved for elected representatives of various organizations within the AEJMC. These include the Council of Divisions (two seats).

The Council of Divisions is comprised of the heads and vice heads of the various divisions and interest groups that represent the research areas of the general membership of the organization. As the primary representative of the general membership, the Council of Divisions has two seats on the AEJMC Board of Directors. Every other year the Council elects its own vice head. At the end of the two years, the vice head assumes the position of Head of the Council of Divisions.

Various standing committees also represent interests of the AEJMC. This include committees on teaching standards, professional freedom and responsibility and research.
