The Department of Communication at Stanford University invites applications for a tenured professor position in the Department of Communication. The areas of expertise of applicants can include, but are not limited to, the changing forms of journalism, the economics and regulation of journalism, freedom of expression in the digital age, the changing role of the media in campaigns and elections, and the relation between news programming and informed citizenship. University of Houston-Clear Lake — Lecturer of Communication and Digital Media Studies • University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applications for a position as lecturer in Communication and Digital Media Studies beginning August 2011. The position requires a terminal degree in communication or a related technology field. The successful candidate must be able to teach digital media production skills to undergraduate and master’s students. Skills of particular importance include compositing, 3d modeling and animation, and desktop publishing with an emphasis on pre-press production. University of HoustonThree assistant or associate professor positions: Two in Journalism and one in Media Production – search continued. The Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at the University of Houston invites applicants for a junior tenure-track or mid-level tenured position in media production or journalism. The preferred candidates must have a Ph.D. Positions start fall ‘2011 academic year. Each position may involve teaching in the master’s program in mass communication. JOURNALISM POSITIONS (2): A preferred candidate is expected to have substantial professional experience as a journalist and demonstrated teaching excellence, research/publication/creative ability. The positions call for specialization in at least one of the following: convergent technology, computer-assisted reporting, media law and/or media studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate journalism courses in a program that focuses on writing, editing, convergent news production, media law, investigative/civic journalism, and the political economy of the media. MEDIA PRODUCTION POSITION (1) (SEARCH CONTINUED): The preferred candidate must demonstrated teaching and research/publication/creative ability and will expected to teach undergraduate media production and theory/criticism courses in a fully-developed program centering on studio and field production, nonlinear editing, long and short-form narrative storytelling and multimedia production. Candidate would be expected to assist in the transition to high definition television, assist in supervising the media production curriculum and have a programmatic research or creative production agenda. A donor-funded studio expansion project is expected to be completed spring ‘2011. Approximately 360 of the 1,600 majors specialize in print or broadcast journalism, another 350 specialize in media production, and 35 graduate students are pursuing a concentration in mass communications. Endowed Professorship in Integrated Marketing Communications • The Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, West Virginia University, seeks a dynamic and innovative educator to fill an endowed professorship in integrated marketing communications, beginning January or August 2011. The Harrison/Omnicom Endowed Professorship in Integrated Marketing Communications is a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates for this position must be able to teach graduate-level courses in advertising, public relations and integrated marketing communications and develop curricula for the School’s online IMC Master’s Degree program. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to conduct scholarly research and publish in appropriate academic venues. Depending on the candidate’s expertise, possible courses to teach could include introduction to IMC, marketing research & analysis, audience insight, brand equity management, creative strategy & execution, direct marketing, PR concepts & strategy, emerging media & the market, and/or campaigns. Successful candidates must have at least 10 years of significant industry experience and a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline. Experience with designing and launching a doctoral program is also desired.
