Journalism Instructor Position
(Full-Time, Non-Tenure Track)

The Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure, term faculty position at the rank of Instructor to begin in Fall 2018. This is an exciting time to be at VCU and a great opportunity to join our forward-thinking school. VCU is one of the nation’s premier urban, public research universities. With more than 31,000 students, it is one of the largest universities in Virginia. The Robertson School is accredited by ACEJMC and has approximately 1,100 students. Teaching assignments will be primarily at the undergraduate level. In all courses taught, the faculty member should reflect the School’s commitment to teaching excellence, community engagement and cultural diversity.

Candidates for this position must have: (1) a master’s degree in journalism or in a related field; (2) a proven track record of inspiring, guiding and mentoring others to reach their full potential; and (3) high expectations for students. Successful college teaching experience is highly preferred. We will recruit candidates with demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

The successful candidate will teach courses that emphasize strong writing and storytelling across media platforms. The ideal candidate will have extensive newsroom experience. An ability to teach innovative multimedia and digital skills is strongly preferred.
