United International College (UIC), a consortium between Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University, invites applications to join our global Faculty in a full-time teaching position to begin in September 2017. Located in Zhuhai, a southern Chinese city known for its excellent environment, UIC is committed to advancing the globalization of higher education and is known for its innovative initiatives in liberal arts education in China.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in communication with a special focus on new media/digital media or closely related field. ABD also considered.
  • Or, Master’s degree with significant professional experience (8+ years) in the communication industry, with practice in new media/digital media.
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • An interest in Chinese culture and society is a plus.

The position will include teaching undergraduate courses, supervising capstone projects, advising students, and providing service to the department and the university. Teaching duties include one or more of the following areas: introductory courses in new media, visual and interaction design, writing for new media, new media and technology, or data analytics.

Academic ranks as professor, associate professor, or assistant professor will be offered based on individual qualifications. Salary is globally competitive and is commensurate with experience. UIC offers healthcare benefits, a housing allowance, and support for research activities.

The Department of Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for a one-year, non-renewable contract in the position of Visiting Assistant Professor / Visiting Senior Instructor / Visiting Instructor in Public Communication.

Candidates should possess a PhD/Master’s/Bachelor’s degree (for Visiting Assistant Professor/Visiting Senior Instructor/Visiting Instructor position respectively) in Communication or a related discipline or equivalent relevant professional experience, and demonstrable expertise in university teaching. Candidates must be fluent, and able to teach, in English. An ability to speak Chinese (Putonghua or Cantonese) would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will have teaching experience in the areas of Organizational Communication, Public Relations and/or Advertising. In addition, specific teaching expertise in professional writing skills, in either Chinese or English, would be an advantage. An ability to guide students’ projects, as well as familiarity with the Macau media industry, is desirable.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2017.

Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.

School of Media and Design (SMD) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is now accepting applications for the positions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor in new media studies, new media technologies, new media art, journalism, film & television, psychology, visual communication, and management related to cultural & creative industries.

Founded in 1896, SJTU is one of the three oldest universities in modern China. Its outstanding graduates include former Chinese president Jiang Zemin and “The Father of Chinese Aerospace” Qian Xuesen. Established in 2002, SMD of SJTU consists of four departments: Journalism and Communication, Film and Television, Design, and Cultural Management, offering a series of undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs. Currently, SMD has more than 700 undergraduates, over 400 master students, and 100 doctoral students (including more than 250 international students in various programs).

SMD has launched four international graduate programs taught in English, including M.A. in Mew Media Studies, Ph.D. in New Media Studies, M.A. in Design and Arts, and Ph.D. in Design Science and Engineering. Therefore, we especially need to recruit new faculty to teach in these international programs; meanwhile, we expect the new faculty to conduct high-quality research in related areas.

Candidates for Assistant Professor should have a Ph.D. degree in journalism, communication, design, management, new media studies, or related fields by August 15, 2017 from globally renowned universities. Candidates for Associate Professor should not only have a Ph.D. in hand but also have demonstrated a significant influence on the profession by their research and a commitment to teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
