Wanted: the founding director for a new media lab at the University of Montana School of Journalism

One of the nation’s leading journalism schools, the University of Montana School of Journalism, is looking for a dynamic founding director to lead a new stand-alone laboratory that will discover, teach and implement best practices in storytelling. This center will prepare students, communities and organizations across a range of disciplines to succeed in a media-driven world. The director will help define and launch the lab, working closely with Journalism School dean and faculty, with partners across campus, and with industry figures from across the country. Successful applicants should be entrepreneurial, independent thinkers, well-versed in the tools of media engagement, and well-grounded in the challenges and opportunities facing modern media creators. Seven-plus years of experience in media creation on multiple platforms is a must, as is the ability to inspire students and faculty, develop meaningful connections and partnerships and help in fundraising and attracting new talent. Applicants should also believe in the value of journalism in sustaining an informed citizenry, and should have an understanding of the ethical values behind responsible journalism. Salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 per year DOE.
