The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the American University in Bulgaria has a regular, full-time, three-year renewable position (video, photo, and documentary journalism) starting Fall 2018. AUBG is a small residential liberal arts university, operating in English, located in Blagoevgrad.

Position Responsibilities: Teaching load of 6 courses per academic year (9 months) in video, photo, and documentary journalism; producing research and/or equivalent creative activity; advising students; and serving the department, university, and wider community.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

(a) Terminal degree in journalism, mass communication, or related field;
(b) Professional rank of associate or full professor;
(c) Record of published and/or juried creative activity or scholarly research;
(d) Experience teaching relevant undergraduate courses in an American liberal arts-style education;
(e) Ability to contribute to other courses in the department and propose topics courses in journalism and media.
(f) Experience in advising students and other academic service;

The Assistant Professor of Public Relations will teach in both the Communication Arts and Integrated Marketing Communication programs. Courses will include but are not limited to Introduction to Public Relations, Writing for PR, PR Campaigns, Social Media, and Communications Research. The candidate should be prepared to teach these courses across a variety of applications including print, video, and digital communications. Knowledge and experience in any of the following areas would also be helpful: communications law and ethics, global public relations, strategic communications, and advertising. A Ph.D. in Public Relations, Mass Communications, or a related field and professional experience is preferred. Teaching experience at the college level is desired. Job Description:
Bellarmine University’s School of Communication seeks an outstanding candidate for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin August 2018.

This position will contribute to our course offerings in two key areas. First, we seek a candidate with professional skills in any area of digital media production, such as digital video, multimedia, web design, digital audio, or animation. Second, the successful candidate will have teaching experience or research interests in areas related to digital culture, the social impact of digital media, and/or other implications of mediated digital communication.

Courses taught may include:
Undergraduate and graduate courses related to digital media, including Graphic Communication, Perspectives in Digital Media, Video Editing and Production, Writing for New Media, and/or Digital Storytelling. There will also be opportunities to propose new courses and expand our offerings.

In addition to continuing evidence of scholarship and innovation, responsibilities include teaching in our undergraduate and master’s programs, academic advising, and service to the School of Communication, university, and community.

Requirements:
Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Ph.D. in Communication or related field at time of employment or obtained by August 2018
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience at the college/university level

APSA-MCI Communications Congressional Fellowships

Gain first-hand knowledge of Congress and policymaking by spending a year on Capitol Hill! The American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for 2018-2019 APSA-MCI Communications Congressional Fellowships, open to academics and journalists from all disciplines and fields who have a professional interest in public policy and telecommunications. Fellows gain hands-on experience in Congress and the policymaking process by serving on congressional staffs, following an intensive one-month orientation. Fellows also participate in enrichment programs throughout the fellowship year. The fellowship stipend is $52,500 plus a travel allowance.

Scholars must have a PhD completed within the last 15 years or will have defended a PhD dissertation by November of the fellowship year. Journalists may be print or broadcast journalists (including online journalists) and must hold a bachelor’s degree, along with two to ten years of professional experience in writing, reporting, editing, producing, or directing.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD / Master’s degree in a relevant field for the position of Assistant Professor / Senior Instructor respectively and should have demonstrable record of excellence in teaching across the relevant areas of communication studies. While candidates must be fluent in English, ability to speak Chinese may be considered an asset, though it is not a prerequisite for the appointment.

The selected candidate may assume duty as early as January 2018.

Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
