The Department of Public Relations in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor, to begin August 2018.

Qualifications: Candidates for the assistant professor of public relations position must possess an earned Ph.D. in communication or other relevant field by August 2018 and a record of original scholarly research. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in one or a combination of the following areas: corporate reputation and identity, crisis/risk, digital/social media, health, international, public interest communications, ethics, and other areas relevant to public relations. Other qualifications include evidence of excellence in teaching, a publication record, potential to secure grant funding, and productivity and effectiveness in contributing to a collegial environment.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in public relations. The faculty member will supervise master’s theses and Ph.D. dissertations. He or she will advise undergraduate and graduate students, engage in governance and other service activities, and demonstrate interest in contributing to online education, diversity, and the internationalization of the college and university.

The Department of Public Relations is one of the largest public relations programs in the country, with eight tenured faculty members, one endowed chair in public interest communications, and two full-time lecturers, for a total of 11 faculty members. It serves approximately 600 undergraduate majors, 25 master’s students, and 10 Ph.D. students. The Department consistently is ranked among the top three public relations programs in the United States and enjoys an excellent international reputation.

The College of Journalism and Communications ( has 57 full-time faculty members teaching in four departments: Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations, and Telecommunication. A recognized national leader in the field, the College is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). The College also houses a full-service communications agency, led by professionals and staffed by students. Midwestern State University

Instructor or Assistant Professor of Mass Communication – Public Relations/Advertising

The Department of Mass Communication at Midwestern State University invites applications for a faculty position in public relations and advertising to begin August 2018. Midwestern State University is the only Texas public institution that is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. The department offers a variety of courses across the discipline leading to a broad mass communication degree with specialized minors in public relations/advertising, digital media, broadcasting and journalism. We are highly student-oriented, and faculty are expected to be accessible to the students.

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree in mass communication or a related field, and relevant professional experience with public relations or advertising, is required for the rank of instructor on non-tenure track. A doctorate or terminal degree in mass communication or a related field is required for the rank of assistant professor on tenure track. In all cases, teaching experience is a plus.

Duties: The successful candidate will teach a range of advertising and public relations courses and may be assigned to teach other courses in the major as needed. The successful candidate will also serve as an academic adviser; lead students to participate in extracurricular activities such as AAF and PRSSA; maintain a record of scholarly activities commensurate with rank; actively recruit; engage in departmental, university and community service; develop relationships with area professionals; be a positive representative of the department both on and off campus; and perform other duties as assigned.
