The School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) invites applications for a 100%-time, nine-month, contract faculty position at the rank of assistant professor for academic year 2017/18 (08/28/2017 – 05/27/2018). The SJMC seeks an outstanding instructor with teaching interests in journalism and/or mass communication. All requirements for the Ph.D. or other relevant terminal degree in journalism, mass communication, mass media or a closely related discipline with an emphasis in journalism/ mass communication/ mass media must be completed by the start-date of the appointment (08/28/2017). Meaningful professional journalism experience and the capacity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a rapidly evolving curriculum in journalism/ mass communication/ mass media fields are highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of successful undergraduate teaching and advising at a four-year research University. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of, or a commitment to a scholarly program of original research and publication, and to institutional and professional service and engagement. Candidates must demonstrate the capacity and commitment to develop and teach a mix of introductory, large-enrollment undergraduate courses in areas such as journalism studies, mass communication, new media, media and culture, media and diversity, visual communication, etc.
