Professor of Practice, Non-tenure track (Position Number 50682)
The Division of Journalism invites applications for a professor of practice to teach courses in news reporting and digital journalism while also advising digital student media operations. Our program trains journalists to communicate in all areas relating to news media, digital journalism and video. Our state-of-the-art Journalism Complex, located in the top media market in the Southwest, includes a digital newsroom and broadcast studio. Programs in journalism and fashion media emphasize strong technology skills as well as the traditional foundation in writing, editing, critical thinking and ethics. The ideal candidate will have a versatile reporting background as well as a proven and ongoing curiosity in embracing new media techniques. Teaching responsibilities will include basic and advanced courses that cover writing, reporting, digital skills, social media and multimedia, as well as the possibility of developing other elective courses depending on area of expertise. Responsibilities also include academic advising and committee work. The position begins August 2017.
Minimum qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or other relevant field, as well as full-time professional experience in print, digital or broadcast news in a major media market.
Preferred qualifications: An advanced degree with an established record of teaching experience.
