The Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Miami’s School of Communication is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice to teach in the Public Relations program, beginning in August 2017. This professionally oriented position entails teaching six (6) courses per academic year, academic advising of undergraduate students, service to the department, school, and university, and the maintenance of significant professional standing in the field of public relations. A Master’s degree is required; a terminal degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of five years of professional experience in public relations is required. The ideal candidate will have senior-level experience in the field of Public Relations. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Successful candidates must have the ability to teach at courses in at least three of the following subjects: Principles of Public Relations, Public Relations Strategy Development, Writing for Public Relations, Public Relations Research, Public Relations Message Development and Execution, Public Relations Management, and Public Relations Campaigns. In addition, the ideal candidate also will be able to teach courses in more specialized areas such as travel and tourism, media relations, international public relations, corporate communication, crisis management, public relations measurement, health care administration. The candidate must be passionate about working with students, be willing and able to embrace new technology and help students adapt to new media demands, and assist students Candidates should be able to connect students to seasoned professionals in the Public Relations field, helping to provide them with solid leads to good job and internship opportunities.
