Assistant Professor of Practice in Multimedia Writing

The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University seeks a media and communication writing professional and teacher with media writing, multimedia writing, editing and publication experience.  This is a non-tenure-track, full-time position, renewable annually based on performance.

Candidates should be prepared and credentialed to teach in the COMC’s online professional MA program in addition to teaching undergraduate face-to-face and online courses. Instructional duties would comprise 40% of this position’s overall assignment, equating to a teaching load of four courses (2/2) per 9-month academic year, with the opportunity to teach additional courses during summer or intersessions for additional compensation. The remaining 60% of the position would be devoted to leading a student, faculty and staff production team that produces traditional and digital publications and productions. Service duties include program-building, as well as a commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.

This position would report to the Assistant Dean for Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Media & Communication.


  • 5 years combined post-secondary teaching and/or professional experience in media writing including but not limited to: traditional and online magazines, new media, newspaper, television, advertising, public relations, non-profit and other types of organizations.
  • A completed Master’s degree (MA/MFA) or PhD at the time of appointment; plus exceptional professional experience at the time of appointment;
    experience managing students and/or professional staff in the completion of professional-quality media projects;
  • a strong writing portfolio;
  • excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.


  • 10 years combined post-secondary teaching and/or professional experience in media and communication writing experiences
  • Master’s degree (MA/MFA) or PhD completed at the time of appointment;
  • Traditional and new media experience;
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and/or professional writing (honors, awards, etc.);
  • Skills in writing and editing for fast-paced social media environment.
