The University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, invites applications for the position of Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Media to begin in August 2017. This is a permanent, full-time, tenured position at the Associate Professor or Professor level, depending on qualifications. The School seeks a dynamic and innovative director who values and promotes outstanding instruction, scholarship, creative activity and outreach. The School offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Advertising, Broadcast and Digital Media, Journalism, and Public Relations, and a new interdisciplinary major in Film and Television Studies.

Responsibilities include providing the strategic direction and vision for the delivery of quality and innovative curriculum, and preparing the School for an External Program Review (2018) and reaccreditation by the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (2019-2020).

Required: Terminal degree in journalism, mass communication or related field; Ph.D. or terminal professional master’s degree in a media field or MBA or J.D. is acceptable. Experience: Academic experience and scholarly record that would qualify at the rank of associate professor or professor or significant professional experience (at least 10 years) in a media management or leadership position. Preferred: Research interests in a media or closely related field. Professional experience as a journalist or media professional (at least two years). Previous administrative experience in an academic setting as a director, chair, associate dean or similar position. Experience with strategic planning and program growth, budget development and management. Success in obtaining external funding. Active involvement with professional organizations.
