School of Communications: Tenure-track positions available in January 2018
The School of Communications at Elon University invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions, one focusing on media analytics and the other on strategic communications, beginning in January 2018.
The assistant professor positions require a Ph.D. (ABD candidates are eligible) or other terminal degree in a communications discipline. Professional experience in media or communications is expected, and teaching experience is desired. Our new colleagues will teach courses in their area of expertise (media analytics or strategic communications) as well as communications courses such as the school’s Great Ideas: Issues and Research capstone or in Elon’s core curriculum.
Elon’s nationally accredited School of Communications is home to 60 full-time faculty and 1,250 students – 20 percent of Elon’s student body. Students select among six multiplatform majors: Journalism, Strategic Communications, Cinema & Television Arts, Communication Design, Media Analytics, and Sport Management. The school also offers an M.A. in Interactive Media and partners with the business school on a Corporate Communications emphasis in the M.S. in Management degree. The latest national accreditation report called the school “nothing short of spectacular,” and this year the school moved into 105,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities. Elon began the nation’s first Media Analytics major in 2014, and more than 60 students already are declared majors. Strategic Communications is the largest major in the school, with more than 500 students.
Elon is recognized as the national leader in engaged learning. All classes range in size from 10 to 33, and 70 percent of Elon students study abroad by the time they graduate. The university attracts 10,000 applicants a year for 1,500 seats in the incoming class and ranks first among master’s-level universities in the South in the U.S. News rankings. The campus is a designated botanical garden located between Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill to the east and Greensboro to the west. To learn more, visit http://www.elon.edu.
Elon faculty members are teacher-scholar-mentors who place teaching at the forefront of what they do and who also engage in scholarly productivity and student mentoring. The teaching norm is five or six courses a year, depending on course reassignments. Since Elon has a fall term, January winter term and spring term, this could be a 2-1-2 or a 2-1-3.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the two positions are filled. Applications must be received by April 28 to be assured of consideration by the search committee this spring. Email a personal letter of application; CV; a link to professional samples or a portfolio or a web presence such as LinkedIn; and the names and contact information for four references to firstname.lastname@example.org . Elon University is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse faculty, staff and student body and welcomes all applicants.
