Limited Term Lecturer in Mass Communication/Strategic Communication

Georgia College seeks applicants for a limited term lecturer (one-year) of mass communication specializing in strategic communication. The ten-month appointment begins August 1, 2017. Primary teaching responsibilities in strategic communication include writing, planning, management, and campaign courses. Other teaching responsibilities may include research, special topics, and/or introductory mass communication courses. This position will also contribute to the university core curriculum. We seek a highly trained professional who is committed to liberal arts education; who can demonstrate excellence in teaching and research; and whose scholarship addresses any area of strategic communication including campaign communication, media effects, audience analysis, and emerging technologies.

Master’s Degree in Mass Communication or related field required. PhD preferred. Hiring preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of and experience in the strategic communications industry and university teaching experience.

The Department of Mass Communication at Georgia College offers an integrated, cross-platform curriculum including informative, persuasive, and digital media mass communication courses with the goal of producing graduates with a broad knowledge of the communication landscape and its wide variety of channels. Community engagement, particularly through service learning in the classroom, is emphasized in the department.

The department with almost 400 majors oversees a PRSSA chapter, a student newspaper, a student operated radio station, a video production club, and a weekly student cable news program. A research lab furnished as a living room and equipped with eye tracking instrumentation is also a part of the department.
