Assistant/Associate Professor of Visual Media in the Department of Media, Journalism & Public Relations at Biola University

Position Summary:
The Department of Media, Journalism & Public Relations (MJPR) at Biola University is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment at the assistant or associate professor rank to begin in Fall 2017 in the area of digital media with emphasis in visual/photography and interactive communication and design.

Education and Experience Required:
The successful candidate for this position should have a record of significant professional and/or teaching experience in photojournalism, media design, publishing and/or digital media for news and/or public relations as well as evidence of successful endeavors in research. Evidence of effective teaching and a terminal degree (PhD, MFA) in an appropriately related academic field of study are expected. ABD will be considered.

Successful teaching is a hallmark of this department. The department is committed to embracing a convergent model of journalism, public relations and media learning for students, so secondary areas of professional competency will enhance the application.

The candidate could be asked to assist or supervise leadership of any of our award-winning student media or to coordinate special projects as needed. The willingness to be innovative and passionate about the field and demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset in pedagogy and in regards to the industry will enhance this candidate’s application.

The candidate will also need to hold personal theological beliefs that are in agreement with the Biola Doctrinal Statement, and maintains a lifestyle consistent with the Biola Standard of Conduct. The ideal candidate will have experience with, or a compassion for, marginalized ethnic groups in the U.S. and other countries. Bilingual and cross-cultural media experience are desired in the candidate.
