The Department of Mass Communication at Xavier University of Louisiana, a Historically Black Catholic University located in the heart of New Orleans, invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2018. The successful candidate will participate in the development of a Public Relations Concentration that serves as a bridge between the Digital Media and Media Entrepreneurship; and be expected to teach undergraduate courses that support the public relations curriculum, including: principles of strategic communication, social media, media writing and public relations campaigns.

The successful candidate will demonstrate professional experience in public relations, strategic communications, or digital/social media at the management level, as well as  full-time college teaching experience.  Desired skills include: the ability to teach online; and demonstrated professional experience in data analytics for public relations (such as data analysis, media planning, and/or promotion and management) or journalism (such as investigative reporting, infographics, and/or web publishing). Applicants should have a PhD in mass communication, journalism or related field, though ABDs will be considered.

In addition to New Orleans’ vibrant culture and dynamic urban revitalization, Xavier’s location provides a rich and fertile research environment with ample opportunities for community engagement, teaching innovation, and research collaborations.   Faculty in Xavier’s Department of Mass Communication enjoy the intimacy of teaching small classes and working closely with individual students, while being affiliated with a larger Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
