Instructor or Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking candidates for a non-tenure track position in advertising or integrated strategic communication. The position is at the instructor or assistant professor level in the Department of Communication, to begin in Fall 2018.

Duties include teaching both required courses and electives in advertising and integrated strategic communication such as Advertising Writing & Production, Principles & Practices of Strategic Communication, and the National Student Advertising Competition class. The individual in this position may supervise our internship program. Duties also include advising our student advertising club and participating in department service.

Requirements: Earned master’s degree by August 1, 2018, documented teaching experience and excellence, an ability to build networks within the professional community, and a record of professional experience.

Communication is a thriving department in the College of Arts and Sciences, with 170 undergraduate majors, 20 minors, 20 M.A. students, and 14 full-time faculty members. We have an undergraduate curriculum that stresses both the theoretical understanding and professional application of communication research within three different concentrations: advertising and public relations; communication studies; and journalism and media studies. We stress proficiency in production/technology across our curriculum. We also emphasize cultural competence and ethical reflection. Our master’s program includes courses in the areas of media studies, strategic communication, and communication studies. The department has a Communication Media Center, Studio Production Suite, and several computer labs to support student learning related to technology and production.
