Advanced Assistant or Associate
Professor of Communication

The Department of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning in Fall 2018. Specialization sought is open, with preferred areas including Journalism, Mass Communication, or Public Relations.

The Communication Program at Texas A&M University-San Antonio offers a relevant, skills-oriented course of study responsive to today’s fast-changing media landscape. We emphasize the fundamentals of journalism and public relations, along with contemporary topics such as social media and entrepreneurship. Our students annually earn regional and national distinction, competing for and winning awards, scholarships, grants and professional development opportunities. Since the launch of the academic program in 2010, our students have received scholarships from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Google, the Online News Association (ONA), the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists (SAAHJ), the San Antonio Professional Chapter of Women in Communications, as well as awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA), the Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Communication.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement commensurate with the rank of Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • University teaching experience commensurate with the rank of Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Willingness to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Broad training in Communication with particular expertise in Journalism, Mass Communication, or Public Relations.
  • Familiarity with the needs of a non-traditional, first-generation, culturally diverse student body.
  • Familiarity with high-impact educational practices such as cooperative education, service learning, and undergraduate research.
  • Experience with contemporary instructional technologies such as learning management systems and e-portfolios.
