Assistant Professor of Journalism: Public Relations

Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public Relations in the PRSA-certified undergraduate and graduate programs in the ACEJMC-accredited Department of Journalism available August 2018.

Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in public relations principles, management, research, campaigns, and skills classes; teaching graduate classes in public relations theories, management, case studies, measurement and evaluation techniques, campaigns, and research methods; conduct and publish scholarly research in related areas and advise theses and creative projects; provide leadership for Cardinal Communications (student-run public relations firm).

The ACEJMC accredited Department of Journalism at Ball State University offers undergraduate majors in advertising, public relations, journalism graphics, photojournalism, magazine media, news, and journalism education, as well as graduate programs in journalism, public relations, and emerging media design and development. The department’s innovative curricular approach to advertising and public relations education combined with exceptional co-curricular opportunities and facilities promise to graduate real-world ready professionals for the communication careers of the future. The $1 million Holden Strategic Communication Center (HSCC) and Advertising Sales and Creative Suite (ASCS) are the state-of-the-art home to departmentally supported advertising and public relations agencies. The agencies work in cooperation with Ball State University’s independent student media including the Daily News (print and online newspaper), Ball Bearings (print and online magazine), NewsLink Indiana (television newscast), Btye (online magazine), and student media content aggregation site, ballstatedaily.com, which are housed in the $4 million Unified Media Lab.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism, public relations, or related field from an accredited college or university; evidence of research productivity.

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism, public relations, or related field from an accredited college or university, professional experience in public relations or strategic communication; successful research record; specialization in media analytics; evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university level; evidence of excellence in service to the academy and professional community with demonstrated potential for administrative leadership of the undergraduate PR major.
