Assistant Professor (Digital Documentary and Multimedia Production)
College of Social Sciences, School of Communications seeks to fill an Assistant Professor (Digital Documentary and Multimedia Production) position no. 84822, permanent, general funds, full-time, 9-month, tenure-track appointment, to begin Aug. 1, 2017, pending position clearance and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate must be well qualified to teach communication and journalism courses in digital media production and technology such as basic video production, post-production, field production, studio production, digital content dissemination, and digital graphics and design. Special focus on integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education into course work and contributing to the University of Hawaii`s sustainability initiative. Publishing research and /or other scholarly or critically evaluated creative work in appropriate media. Performing university and professional service. Other duties as assigned by chair.
PhD. or other terminal degree in Communication or Journalism or related field (completed prior to appointment). ABDs must submit a letter from their committee chairs attesting that dissertation and all degree requirements will be completed before August 1, 2017. Demonstrated record of scholarly research and/or creative activity in the area of digital documentary and multimedia production. Evidence of successful college-level teaching in areas such as video storytelling, broadcast journalism, multimedia storytelling, producing documentaries, and infographics. Evidence of work and knowledge and interest in STEM-related fields.
Five years or more professional experience in professional video production or documentary films or experience in digital media and multimedia production. Proficiency in Final Cut, Adobe Premiere or similar video-editing software. Proficiency in Motion, Photoshop, After Effects, or similar graphic and photo-editing software. The College of Social Sciences and the School of Communications are committed to excellent teaching; therefore an interest in innovative education strategies is desired of all candidates. Interest in the Asia-Pacific region.
