Open-rank Tenure-Line Faculty in Media Management and Economics

The Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State seeks an outstanding faculty member for an Open Rank Tenure-track position in Media Management and Economics.

The appointment will begin in Fall 2024, in the Bellisario College’s Department of Telecommunications and Media Industries.

Role: The successful candidate will teach courses in media management and economics at both graduate and undergraduate levels and perform research on the management and economics of the telecommunications and media industries, including local radio and television stations; broadcast, broadband and satellite networks; Internet content and service providers; wired and wireless telephone companies; social media; and other related media and entertainment industries. All approaches, including empirical, critical, and organizational, are welcome.

Education and Experience: A PhD in communications, media studies, economics, information sciences and technology, or other related fields is required. The successful candidate must complete all degree requirements by the appointment start date. Significant industry or professional experience is strongly preferred for Associate or Full Professor level.

This is a tenure-track position. The selected candidate may be placed at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor levels.

Candidates hired at the Assistant Professor level should possess a terminal degree (such as PhD, JD, or EdD) and must have demonstrated ability as a teacher or researcher. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should possess the same qualifications as the Assistant Professor but must also provide evidence of an established reputation in scholarly and professional achievement. Candidates at the Professor level should possess the same qualifications as the Associate Professor but must also provide evidence of a substantial record of advanced research and of leadership in their field of specialization.

Candidates hired at the Assistant Professor level will have the opportunity to be considered for tenure after appropriate reviews during their probationary period. Candidates hired at the Associate Professor or full Professor level will be appointed with immediate tenure.

The Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications is the largest nationally accredited undergraduate program in the country. The College is home to four departments: Advertising/Public Relations; Film/Video and Media Studies; Journalism; and Telecommunications and Media Industries. Faculty members in the Department of Telecommunications and Media Industries possess a blend of academic and professional credentials and have a strong record of research and teaching in telecommunications management, policy, and audiovisual production. Courses are offered both in-residence and online. The University Park Campus is set in State College, a university town located in the heart of central Pennsylvania.
