POSITION SUMMARY
The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication (NQSC) at High Point University invites applications for an open‑rank faculty position in the Department of Multimedia Journalism and Sports Media. The successful candidate will join a nationally recognized, multidisciplinary academic unit within a School that is rapidly growing and in increasing demand.
The faculty member will:
- Teach classes in multimedia journalism and sports media.
- Advance a culture of hands‑on, high‑impact learning.
- Foster academic excellence, innovation, and industry engagement.
- Help shape the future of two of the School’s most visible and professionally driven programs.
This is a full‑time, nine‑month renewable contract faculty position with a standard 3/3 teaching load, along with advising responsibilities and collaboration with a dynamic team of journalism and sports media faculty. Candidates with significant academic leadership experience may be considered for a departmental leadership role; in that case, the appointment could include service as department chair with an adjusted 2/2 teaching load.
Teaching & Student Engagement
- Teach a 3/3 course load in journalism, sports media, or related areas (2/2 with significant administrative appointment such as department chair).
- Advise undergraduate majors and minors.
- Engage students in experiential, hands‑on learning consistent with NQSC’s high‑impact instructional model.
- Incorporate professional practices, studio and live‑production environments, and current media technologies into teaching.
- Supervise or collaborate with student media organizations and live event productions when appropriate.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a master’s degree in journalism, sports media, mass communication, or a closely related field.
- Significant college‑level teaching experience in journalism, sports media, or both.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or professional media environment (for candidates seeking or open to a leadership role).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional experience in broadcast journalism, including operation of studio equipment and control‑room systems.
- Expertise with on‑camera delivery, storytelling, and field or live‑event production workflows.
- Professional or academic experience in studio‑based or live‑event media production (e.g., multi‑camera sports coverage, live streaming, or studio shows).
- Evidence of successful collaboration with industry partners and/or student media.
