The Department of Journalism at Central Michigan University seeks one full-time nine-month tenure-track assistant professor to teach social media courses in its nationally accredited program beginning Aug. 15, 2018.


  • PhD in journalism, mass media or a closely related field. (ABD considered but must have PhD in hand by Aug. 15, 2018.)
  • A well-defined and active research agenda and ability to work across disciplines to help the department position itself as a leader in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement social media strategies.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.


  • Experience in news/editorial, advertising and/or public relations is preferred.
  • Experience securing external grants is desired.
  • Significant professional experience in social media.

Position summary:
The successful applicant will teach social media courses, oversee and develop the online social media certificate program, take a lead role in integrating media analytics into our majors, teach in other related areas subject to the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the department, and maintain an active scholarly and service agenda.

The candidate chosen will bring the latest social media expertise to the classroom and be passionate about teaching social media strategy and evaluation, how to build a personal online brand, and related legal and ethical issues. This position will strengthen newly focused connections with other departments in our college and pursue collaborative opportunities for students and faculty in social media. We seek candidates who are forward-looking and versatile and ready to lead in curricular innovation and development.

The School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts, at Central Michigan University, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in digital and online media. We seek a dynamic colleague to take the lead in creating and redesigning curriculum to teach multi-platform and social media elements across current and emerging media channels. This position will strengthen newly focused connections with other departments in our college, such as journalism, pursuing collaborative opportunities for students and faculty in digital design and media analytics. The successful candidate will join a media program nationally recognized for excellence in student radio and television production, and we seek innovative candidates to progress our school to continue as a leader in the field. This position includes teaching undergraduate and graduate digital media and quantitative research methods courses, and advising graduate student research projects, as well as maintaining an active scholarly/creative, and service agenda.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in mass media or related field; however, an ABD will be considered if it is clear the degree will be conferred by August 15, 2018.
  • Active research agenda immersed in quantitative methodology and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with social media, web design, media analytics and quantitative research design.
  • Ability to teach media courses at the graduate and undergraduate level.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience in digital media areas.
  • At least 2-years of teaching experience at the college level.

Ferris State University seeks a tenure-track assistant professor to join our growing Communication programs. The successful candidate will be a communication generalist with an advanced degree focused on Mass and Digital Media. Opportunities exist to develop course(s) in the candidate’s area of specialty. Ferris State University is primarily a teaching institution, and the Humanities Department houses the Communication programs. Ferris State University offers degrees in Sports Communication, Applied Speech Communication, and Applied Speech Communication with a concentration in Public Advocacy. There are opportunities to revise existing curricula and to collaborate with undergraduate students on research projects.
