Media Communication is one of the fastest growing programs at Champlain College. Due to its committed faculty, graduates are finding jobs in nonprofit communications, human resources, public relations, advertising, public service, television, broadcasting and radio. The Program is comprised of three majors: Communication, Public Relations and Broadcast and Streaming Media. There is a high degree of student/client work and hands-on application of material in the class room, students come to Champlain to study Communication based on the pre-professional focus of the program.

Champlain College is an institution that values teaching engagement. The typical workload includes 4 courses per semester teaching Champlain’s undergraduate Communication courses including Media and Society and other courses such as Contemporary Media Issues and Social Media. Candidates are expected to take an active role in the department and college community, including: pursuing professional, creative and/or scholarly activity, developing new curricula, advising students, helping to set up and supervise internships, executing yearly departmental goals, serving on college committees, and advising student media organizations. Provide student mentoring including assigned academic advising, student outcomes assessment, and attend college functions, including commencement, convocation, and faculty, committee and departmental meetings, and admission events.

The finalist will have an earned doctorate in Communication or Mass Communication. An ABD candidate may be considered if degree is awarded by time of appointment. Applicants must have teaching experience at the college level, preferably with first year survey courses in media communication. Experience and knowledge in the areas of media and society, digital media, media convergence, media literacy, and social media; writing for the media, or additional specialties are highly desirable. Professional work experience related to the field of communication strongly preferred. Previous advising experience is necessary, as is strong interpersonal skills that engage students in educational growth. Evidence of the ability to assist students in applying learning outside the classroom preferred, as is an ability to design competency-based courses.

The successful candidate should be able to build intercultural understanding and demonstrate multicultural perspectives that can foster a diverse and inclusive community both inside and outside of the classroom.
