Start date: August 2013. Missouri Western is seeking a candidate to fill a tenure-track position in its Convergent Media degree program. Candidates should be able to teach courses in video and multimedia journalism and digital photojournalism and in one or more of the following areas: principles/history of mass media, media law and ethics, publication design, print reporting and editing. The Missouri School of Journalism seeks a superb teacher with excellent organizational skills to coordinate instruction in our gateway undergraduate news- writing course and to contribute to the teaching and research mission of the School in international journalism. This is a ranked, non-tenure track, renewable position on the Journalism Studies faculty, with the title Assistant Professional Practice Professor.
Responsibilities: For the required, multi-section news-writing course that serves 700 students per year, this faculty member will develop and implement curriculum; hire, train, supervise and evaluate instructors; write and deliver lectures; and coordinate with faculty groups and programs inside and outside the School to ensure the course meets a variety of curricular goals. In the international area, this faculty member will teach and be active in exploring international journalism and global communication issues in professional or scholarly venues.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have at least a master’s degree in journalism or a closely related field (Ph.D. preferred), a strong background as a professional journalist, college-level classroom teaching experience, and demonstrated ability to manage people. Professional experience and/or research expertise in international journalism is a plus.

The School of Journalism and Mass Media seeks a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor in media law to begin in August 2013. The position includes an affiliate appointment in the University’s College of Law.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in journalism, mass communication or media-related discipline, or J.D.; demonstrated teaching effectiveness at college or university level; ability to teach media law and one other area of journalism. A.B.D. applicants who will complete their dissertation by the August 2013 may be considered. For consideration as an Associate Professor, at least five years of full-time teaching as an Assistant Professor or higher rank is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Professional media experience or law practice; strong research or creative ability; interest and involvement in professional and academic organizations; experience working with multicultural populations or for media outlets serving diverse communities.
Responsibilities: Primary teaching area will be Law of Mass Media, a required course for all majors. The successful candidate will also teach one seminar per year in the University’s College of Law.

Visiting Professor of Journalism Ethics
Washington and Lee University’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communications is seeking a colleague to teach journalism ethics and media ethics for the 2013-14 academic year, beginning Aug. 15. The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree, considerable recent journalism experience and evidence of a sustained interest in and knowledge about professional ethics. An advanced degree is desirable and past teaching experience is a plus. In addition to teaching ethics, our one-year colleague will teach at least one other course each term in the department. This is an interim position while the department seeks its next permanent Knight Chair in Journalism Ethics. That search will begin in summer 2013.
The successful candidate will join a collegial eight-person faculty in a facility designed for the technology requirements of 21st century journalism. Located in the beautiful Valley of Virginia, Washington and Lee is the only highly competitive, private liberal arts college with an accredited journalism program; teaching journalism ethics has been a fundamental component of the department’s curriculum for nearly four decades.

Job Description: Academic year appointment, tenure-track position with responsibilities for teaching, advising, maintenance of personal research program, participation in professional activities, and serving on university committees. This position will be part of a new program offering both undergraduate and graduate (Master’s) degrees in ICT, housed in the School of Library and Information Science, in conjunction with other faculties within the College of Communication and Information, a member of the iSchool consortium.
Teaching and research responsibilities will require expertise in one or more areas of information policy, e.g.,: intellectual property/copyright, ecommerce regulation, cybercrime, security informatics, network security, privacy policy. Candidates should be prepared to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The Departments of Computer Science (CS) and Advertising (ADV) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invite applications for a joint faculty position in Computational Advertising. This novel position is part of a new multi-year Strategic Excellence Hiring Program at Illinois that focuses on: (a) Information, Technology and Society, (b) Human Health and Wellness, (c) Energy and Sustainability, and (d) Culture, Communication, and Global lssues. We seek candidates with CS skills in areas such as “big data”, data-mining, or algorithmic game theory, and with advertising interests or experience in areas such as online /contextual advertising, digital privacy, behavioral targeting, and social media analytics. This is a tenured 9-month academic year appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level. Successful candidates will be expected to carry out independent research and to perform academic duties associated with our B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs.
Faculty in the CS department carry out research in a broad spectrum of areas and are supported by world-class facilities, starting with our department’s home in the Siebel Center for Computer Science, and including collaborations with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the Information Trust Institute, and the Illinois Informatics Institute, as well as several industrial centers and programs that foster international collaborations. The CS department has one of the leading programs in the United States, granting approximately 200 B.S. degrees, 70 M.S. degrees, and 60 Ph.D. degrees annually. The Department of Advertising, the first such academic department in the country, was established in 1959 by Charles H. Sandage, considered to be the father of advertising education. Today, the top-ranked department celebrates Sandage’s legacy with scholarship and teaching focused on understanding, evaluating and communicating the many facets of advertising. Approximately 150 B.S. degrees and 20 M.S. degrees are granted annually. Faculty can also teach in the Institute for Communications Research (ICR) doctoral program in the College of Media.
